Hey, it's our one year anniversary! *confetti and glitter* Thank you for playing and watching!

March is drawing to its close, and our April challenge is about to begin. For our next challenge, Yohji gets to be a real white knight, Sanzo dodges the advances of a lecherous wolf, Hakkai turns into a flock of birds, Aya trades his soul to a witch to save his sister, and Omi passes out poisoned fruit.

That's right--we're doing fairy tales!

Fairy tales can be defined as "a story involving fantastic forces and beings." Wikipedia says the exact definition of "fairy tale" is a source of some contention: some say it involves a sense of the fantastic, some say "transformation" is usually involved, and yet others say "it moves in an unreal world without definite locality or definite creatures and is filled with the marvelous"; most agree it doesn't actually have to involve fairies at all. We're pretty laidback around here--use your own take, and have fun! Make up your own fairy tale, recast a favorite, reimagine a classic--go wild.

If you would like some inspiration, wikipedia offers a list of some fairy tales and some common fairy tale motifs.

Also, random inspirational pics:

Further (and larger) fairy tale-themed works by almost all these artists can be found on flickr or the marvelous Golden Age Comic Book Stories site (http://goldenagecomicbookstories.blogspot.com/). I'm cheating on the Sam Weber--he's a contemporary artist illustrating Greek mythology there--but the image is so wonderfully evocative, and I'm insane about it (http://sampaints.com/2009/11/a-memory-of-wind/).

Posting begins on the stroke of midnight, April 1!
