WK Fanart - Feudal Japan Sci-Fi AU Schuldig
Fandom: Weiss Kreuz
Rating: G / Safe For Work
Summary:
bladderwrack and I have been collaborating on a sci-fi AU with Feudal Japan influences (collaboration includes both plot and character design). In this universe, Schuldig is a long-term hostage of damiyo!Takatori Reiji. Takatori keeps Schuldig subjugated through chemical and electrical means (the latter mainly being the headpiece he wears here... the leads thread into a port at the back of his neck; it dampens/influences his telepathy). I believe our story unfolded as Crawford, advisor to damiyo!Fujimiya Ran, arrived on Takatori's home planet to negotiate a hostage exchange--Schuldig for Takatori Ouka. From there it goes on to intrigue, sex, violence, betrayal! And possibly Schuldig being slinky in kimono in his private quarters at some point:

Totally unique image. I’ve never seen a fusion of traditional Japanese with Sci-fi like that before. Looks like it should be on the cover of a novel.

We had a lot of fun tooling around with the fusion. Traditional Japanese + sci-fi = two tastes that taste great together!

The textures are lovely, where did you get tham?

Thanks! It's mostly all a section of this vintage kimono that I had, used in different resolutions and tweaked for color. There's an umbrella-shaped patterning going on in the background--that's just drawn by hand and filtered (the tree-shape-looking thing is riffing off a diagram of a neuron). The teeny sliver of patterning you see on his innermost pinkish kimono is a private joke/obscure reference; it's scanned from this little book--Designer's Guide to Japanese Patterns, Vol. 2 by Jeanne Allen--and it's "kikko (tortise shells)," apparently a popular design that was briefly stenciled on battle gear before the peaceful Edo period.

The simplicity of his attire blows my mind (in a good sense).
Now I want to read that story so badly...!

Heh, I'm sure it's a mask. He probably has sharp objects at the ready in the hands we can't see!
Thanks! :D

He does look remarkably restrained here, but I guess that's the whole point of what he's wearing, isn't it? And the headdress is gorgeous and creepy all at the same time.

I'm glad he comes across as restrained--I was hoping to convey the impression that he was seemingly docile/subjugated. :D (I like to think he's just camouflaging the evil vicious bitchery!)

I've been really late in finding this (obviously), but it's beautiful and it has just made my life. I'm working on a feudal-era WK story (historical, though, not sci-fi) and this was exactly, exactly the kind of eye-candy I was in the mood for. Schuldig looks gorgeous and and I adore, madly adore the idea of telepathy inhibitors. I'm (not-so-)ashamed to say that I would hit that. I would want a harem full of that. God damn it.
You have any links to this obviously brilliant sci-fi collab? Y/Y? :D :D

I would love to read your feudal-era WK story when it's ready!
