Characters: Hakkai & Gojyo
Notes:
Here is some art in which Gojyo and Hakkai are highwaymen.
I was imagining them as partners in crime... one night while robbing a coach (containing Koumyou and Sanzo), Hakkai and Gojyo are attacked themselves by something evil and supernatural (to do with Ukoku, of course). Hakkai messily buys the farm (or appears to). Days/weeks later I think Gojyo is haunted/hunted by something, though I'm not sure if it is Hakkai, or undead/cursed not-Hakkai, or just Gojyo's despair.
Mood board:
I think Hakkai would have more than one incarnation before the story's climax. Sometimes a phantom, sometimes an evil beast-thing, and maybe sometimes something almost human. I toyed around with his phantom incarnation here.
Many thanks to a bounty of helpful comments on my journal as I plodded along, and especially to louiselux and smillaraaq who offered great inspiration with the ballads "I am Stretched on Your Grave," "Sweet William," and "Unquiet Grave."
